Lessons from Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus
Imagine you’re forced to live with someone for at least a couple of weeks — and, because of differences, you don’t see eye to eye. Scenario: Big fight. With the other person pointing fingers towards you. Then, to atleast help you cope with the stress and trauma, somebody drags your kid relative in. The next day, you see your kid getting verbally beaten by this other person, because he simply cant get to you. How would you react?
This is primetime reality tv for us here in the Philly. Thanks to Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus, we get to see how women and children could get verbally abused by some, maybe out of ignorance, or out of kept heated emotions, or simply because the person’s like that — without morals. It’s not even an issue of race because there are pinoy men who do it. Don’t believe? Then better say “hello” to Republic Act 9262. That’s Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
Here in the Philippines, women and children are treated not just with respect, but with love. It’s not even a suggestion, IT IS A MUST.
This is what the law states — that the crime of violence against women and their children is committed through physical harm, and even threats, to the woman or her child. Nobody has the right to do anything that would cause substantial emotional or psychological distress to the woman or her child, and this includes any form of harassment or violence, causing mental or emotional anguish, public ridicule or humiliation to the woman or her child including, but not limited to, repeated verbal and emotional abuse.
Things like this must be stopped. We need not see any of these if we only have our values straightened up. If this happens to me, and somebody would point a finger at my kid and use the “f” word on him — ohmy, ill see that he gets what he deserves.
I hope guys read this. Better wake up!
